CSA Weekly Letter – 1/31

January 31st, 2020

Cornerstone Families,

Happy Friday!  I hope everyone had a great week. Be sure to ask your student for his/her progress report…they were sent home today.

Our staff shout-out this week goes to one of our amazing CSA teachers…Mrs. Linda Bimler!  Of course, all of our teachers are wonderful, but Mrs. Bimler definitely deserves a spotlight.  On top of being one of the sweetest and most thoughtful people I know, Mrs. Bimler is a phenomenal Language Arts teacher who also finds time to co-sponsor our yearbook with Ms. Kim, organize our campus spelling bee, and “coach” our First Lego League team.  We’re so happy to have her in our CSA family and thank her for dedication to our students.

Speaking of spelling bee, today the district level spelling bee happened at Westchester Academy, and our Cornerstone students represented us very well.  Congratulations to Shreya Chella who earned 11th place and Daniyal Salman who earned 4th place!

Congratulations are also in order to 7th grader Ashley Brunson who earned a Grand Champion award for the goat she raised at the SBISD FFA Livestock Show and Sale.  Way to go, Ashley!

We’re also super proud of our chess team. On Saturday, January 25, the CSA Chess Team competed at the SFMS tournament.  The team consisted of Matthew He (7th), Jason Hu (6th), Matthew Nemoto (8th), Mario Reyes (8th), Cole Tanner (8th), and Roby Wood (8th).  It was a challenging day, as most of the team had moved up a section from the previous tournament.  All played their best, but victories were harder to come by.  However, Roby Wood won 1st place in his section, with 4 wins and a draw.  Congratulations to Roby and to all the team members for doing their best.

Next week, our 8th graders bound for Stratford HS and Spring Woods HS will participate in course selections for freshman year.  If you have questions about course selection or the 8th-to-9th transition, please contact Mrs. Johnson.

It’s almost time for our Valentine’s Dance on February 14th, which means it’s also almost time for Parents Night Out.  When you drop off your kids at the dance, head over to The Branch at 7710 Long Point for food, drinks, and fun.  Also, at this event, PTA will be collecting wine for our upcoming Birthday Bash event.  Bring a bottle of wine ($25 value or higher) or a Spec’s gift card ($25 or more) to donate, and each donation will be entered in the raffle.  This definitely sounds like a fun way to meet other CSA parents and pass the time while the kids are at the dance.  Have fun, parents!

Have a great weekend!

Warm Regards,

Angel Purdy
