Chess Club News
The CSA chess team traveled all the way to Spring to compete in their latest chess tournament. The competition was fierce, but Matthew Nemoto, Mario Reyes, Cole Tanner, and Roby Wood (all 7th grade) played hard and true. Matthew Nemoto earned a trophy for 5th place in his section. We are very proud of all our members and their achievements.
Our next tournament is February 9th at Tompkins High School in Katy. We look forward to more accomplishments to celebrate there as well.

Parents and Students Learn about  Career and Technology (CTE)

Greater Houston Partnership’s UpSkill Houston initiative launched a new career resource to help support educators, counselors, and staff as they inspire students to consider the range of great career opportunities available in the Houston region.

We are excited to share with you some new social media assets connected with the pipefitter foreman “My Life As” video and accompanying fact sheets already available on the website If you have not yet viewed the video, it features Michael Reyes Canseco, who left a job in IT to launch a career at Jacobs Engineering and quickly rose to the supervisory position of pipefitter foreman. Along the way, he grew more financially stable and found himself growing into the person he is today.

Work on producing new “My Life As” videos and resources continues. We are poised to add a fourth industry to our library: Petrochemical Manufacturing. This winter and spring, we will bring you the stories of three petrochem employees: a process technician, an instrument technician and a process technology apprentice. We are also working on two new stories from within Houston’s health care industry. These additions will increase our campaign reach and the depth of our resources, and we will keep you informed of when they are completed.
